Whitehaven Welcome Center, Paducah, KY

PADUCAH, KY – Whitehaven Welcome Center is a 24/7 rest stop that resides in a beautiful 1860’s two-story Southern mansion located on Lone Oak Road at I-24 in Paducah, KY. The mansion is completely restored and tastefully filled with furniture and decor from the period.

Also in the home you will find memorabilia that belonged to Alben W. Barkley, a McCracken County native and served as Vice President of the United States from 1949 to 1952.

When we stopped at Whitehaven for the first time, we were in awe.  We just moved to Paducah at the time and had no idea that we now lived in a town that happens to have one of the the best looking rest stops in the United States. I forgot to mention it’s Award Winning to boot.

The mansion is advertised as a potential movie set location for either a haunted house or a Civil War theme at paducahfilms.com/paducah-movie-film-location. It has been noted that a female ghost can be spotted at times on the balcony of the second story bedroom as well.

Paducah is filled with historic places like Whitehaven but these gems must be seen in person since pictures do little justice regarding the feel of these places. For example, the night I visited the air had a heavenly mix of fresh cut grass and roses with a perfect temperature of 75 degrees.

And the people? Remarkable! Irvin Cobb said it best:

“More Genuine hospitality is offered than any other town of like size in the Commonwealth.”

So anytime you find yourself wanting to stop and literally ‘smell the roses’ or flowers so-to-speak, visit Whitehaven and submerse yourself in the grandeur of the past.
