A man in San Antonio, Texas, allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend multiple times after she told him they needed to go their separate ways following a dinner at Chili’s, authorities say.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
Isaac Rivas, 26, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the late-night shooting on Wednesday. According to local reports from CBS affiliate KENS, the 26-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Her identity has not been released, and as of Monday, her condition remained unknown.
A Friendship That Turned Deadly
Police say Rivas and his ex-girlfriend had been meeting weekly as friends after ending their relationship. On the night of the incident, they had dinner at a Chili’s Grill & Bar, where she informed him that they should stop seeing each other.
The victim was driving Rivas in her truck and asked where he wanted to be dropped off. That’s when he allegedly became enraged.
“It’s going to get f—ing ugly if you don’t take me where you’re going,” Rivas reportedly told her, according to his arrest affidavit obtained by KENS and KSAT.
Terrifying Confrontation at Nite Owlz Bar
Fearing for her safety, the woman pulled into the Nite Owlz Bar at 1843 Rigsby and ran inside. Rivas allegedly followed her, demanding that she return to the truck. When she attempted to use a bottle of pepper spray, it malfunctioned. He then asked if she planned to do anything about the situation. She responded with “no” and apologized, police say.
As she left the bar and walked toward her vehicle, she tried to run away with her back turned to him. That’s when Rivas allegedly opened fire, shooting at her 11 times and hitting her at least four times in the groin, hip, abdomen, and back.
Escape Attempt and Arrest
After the shooting, Rivas attempted to flee the scene. His mother reportedly picked him up, but police later apprehended him. He was booked at the Bexar County Jail on Friday and is scheduled to appear in court this week.
