TRANSCRIPT: I just want to make it very clear. We either pass these bills or people die. It doesn’t matter if it’s from the cold, if it’s from the heat, if it’s from the hydration. If we don’t pass these bills, people will die.

I respect and appreciate the political courage of those who are supporting this bill, but I’m also deeply saddened that this is what we have to fight for, that we are fighting for less discriminatory encampment destruction rules and to make it easier to provide shelter for people. This isn’t even a right to decent housing. This isn’t even a right to current housing, which should be the bare minimum. This is just to reduce the number of deaths. And anybody who doesn’t support this has blood on their hands. Thank you.
