METROPOLIS, IL – The 39th Annual Superman Celebration 2017 was a four-day extravaganza where superheroes and villains took over Market Street in the wonderful small town of Metropolis, IL.
The YouTube video has the same photos as the gallery below but with more cars, music and a short clip of the 933rd Forward Surgical Group led into prayer by the Mayor Billy McDaniel of Metropolis.
This year’s celebration was dedicated to Noel Darleen Neill (1920-2016) best known for playing Lois Lane in the 1950s television series “The Adventures of Superman.”
Noel attended many celebrations throughout the years and was given the title “First Lady of Metropolis’ along with a taller-than-life statue of her as Lois Lane located downtown on 8th and Market.
I wanted to thank the awesome people in the costume contest for posing in character for us photographers outside the tent. Everyone of you looked incredible.
Also, I wanted to thank Trish from the Greater Metropolis Convention & Visitors Bureau for asking me to take a few photos for her – it was an honor and privilege.
It was a blessing to attend such a huge event with a comic hero on every corner. The Superman Celebration magically immersed everyone into a virtual comic book scene with living characters.
Take a looksee at how beautiful Market Street looks without the Superman event.
