Statue of Tampa Mayor Nick Nuccio with trademark cigar and hat, Ybor City

TAMPA/YBOR CITY – Mayor Nick C. Nuccio (1901 – 1989) was immortalized in 1999 by the city with a large bronze statue of himself in Centennial Park holding his trademark cigar and hat facing towards 8th Avenue in the Historic District of Ybor City.

Born and raised in the immigrant neighborhood of Ybor City, Nick Chillura Nuccio became Tampa’s first Latin (specifically Italian) mayor, serving two terms in the 1950s and 60s.
