NEW ORLEANS, LA – SEP 16, 2015: Saenger Theatre opened in 1927, destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and reopened in 2013 after a complete renovation located on Canal Street in New Orleans, LA.
The restoration of the theater was part of a $53 million revitalization project to help jump-start the economy for the New Orleans Central Business District that included Canal Street, which is considered to be the main thoroughfare in New Orleans with cable cars that run in the middle.
The Saenger Theatre has a dome ceiling painted as the sky, very similar to the Tampa Theatre built in 1926.
The inside decor is 15th century Italian dotted with Roman and Greek statues along the upper balcony that circles the theater.
Saenger Theatre in New Orleans is on the National Register of Historic Places.
