DOWNTOWN TAMPA FL – APRIL 20, 2015: The historic 1927 S.H. Kress & Co. “five and dime” building at 811 N. Franklin Street is zoned for commercial use and apartments in Downtown Tampa, FL.

Kress sits in the middle of two other historic retail icons: the former Woolworth Department Store to the right (where the Civil Rights-era lunch counter sit-ins took place) and the former J.J. Newberry store to the left, a “five & dime” as well.

The Kress structure was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places On April 7, 1983. Being a historic building, developers will be obligated to include some of the original structure and facade in their plans.
