Rosa Parks
She is best known for her role in the Montgomery bus boycott, a protest against the racial segregation of public buses in Montgomery, Alabama. On December 1, 1955, Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person, as was the practice at the time, and was arrested for violating a city ordinance.

Her act of civil disobedience sparked a year-long boycott of the Montgomery bus system and helped to launch the modern civil rights movement in the United States. Parks was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal for her contributions to the struggle for racial equality.. more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Parks
