SHOUTHSHORE/APOLLO BEACH, FL – Ape-Ollo is the town mascot and is now watching us from the top of the Apollo Beach Water Tower that runs along U.S. 41 in Apollo Beach.

See a video Ape Ollo on top of the water tower during the Winter 2015/2016.

Below is a comment that was left by a gentleman named Denny that explains in detail about Ape-Ollo:

Ape-Ollo is our town mascot, symbol of our togetherness and all around love cuddle for us and our children in Apollo Beach.

Although his actual origins are as fuzzy as HE is (some say he was rescued from a dumpster…others say he was donated to the park) either way, he seems to have been abandoned on what is now HIS bench at the Apollo Beach dog park.

He was tended to and cared for and immediately adopted by the local residents, who have taken to bringing him gifts, friends and supplies to protect and “amuse” him. Some have left playmates in the form of other stuffed animals, some have left decorations, hats or blankets…(I have left umbrellas, a celebratory bottle of sparkling grape juice and his favorite music on CD…Lancelot Link and the Evolution Revolution).

He recently vanished for a time and we were beside ourselves with concern as to his condition and whereabouts and future.
After making a plea on facebook for his safe return (including a vigil on Friday night), he was returned to us, not only safe and sound, but also clean and fluffy!!!

Stop by the intersection of ‘Gulf and Sea’ and ‘Fairway Blvd’ in Apollo Beach and see what all the hoopla is about!

He is always up for making new friends!
…and he has them from as far away as Australia (Robyn-Maree Penny) and from as close as…well as close as the next child that walks by!)”

He has since moved (climbed?) to the top of the old water tower where he is at least safe from damage by vandalism or from being Ape-napped again.

We citizens of Apollo Beach are VERY protective of him and wish him nothing but the best!

Also, he is very sensitive about being called a “monkey.”

  1. Ape-ollo, a friendly pink ape. Who brought laughter when there was none. To you I owe my smile. Although I can never get up there to see you, my thoughts are with you always. May be when you come down, we can visit again.

  2. His name is Ollo…Ape Ollo.
(And he is very sensitive about being called a “monkey”!)

The small biography I wrote for his Facebook Page:

“Since I am being asked about you, I thought I would write a very brief biography for your newest friends and friends to be.

I know it is by no means complete.

Feel free to add the details from your life that you see and relevant and necessary to tell your story and include any tidbits you would like your friends to know about you.

    Thanks, Pal!

    1. Hello Denny,

Thank you for the letter about Ape Ollo. I will keep an eye on him when I passed by the tower as well. With deep appreciation…craig
