Nepal Earthquake: death toll reaches 4,400, searching continues

LALITPUR, NEPAL – APRIL 28: Rescue workers and volunteers in the photo above are clearing the debris from a collapsed temple near Patan Durbar Square on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Lalitpur, Nepal.

Today, the death toll has reached 4,400 due to Saturday’s 7.8 earthquake and getting aid and food to over a million people in need has proved to be difficult.

Aftershocks continue in the region, hampering rescue missions. Saturday’s aftershocks triggered avalanches on Mt. Everest that buried climbers at base camp killing almost twenty including Google executive Dan Fredinburg.

The earthquake destroyed temples, buildings and houses leaving countless homeless, some seeking refuge in Tundikhel Park in Kathmandu, an evacuation center set up by authorities with food and shelter.
