METROPOLIS, IL – The Massac County Courthouse (built in 1942) is located next to the Giant Superman statue at 1 Superman Square in Metropolis, IL.

Massac County, Illinois was formed in 1843 from Johnson and Pope Counties and its boundaries have remained unchanged since. The name Massac originated from Fort Massac, named after the French naval minister, Marquis de Massiac.
