Death toll nears 2200 after earthquake, searching continues, aftershocks, Nepal

KATHMANDU, NEPAL – APRIL 25: The death toll nears 2200 after a 7.8 earthquake struck on April 25, 2015 in Kathmandu, Napal.

The massive earthquake caused buildings to collapses and avalanches in the neighboring Himalayan Mountains.

Search efforts for survivors continue in the region as severe aftershocks continue.

The Associated Press reported:

The quake hit just before noon local time (2:15 a.m. ET), with an epicenter about 50 miles from the capital of Kathmandu and 50 miles east of Nepal’s second-largest city, Pokhara. (Associated Press)
