NEW ORLEANS, LA – SEPT 23: These overhead, horizontal traffic-lights are commonly used in New Orleans that are secured with multiple anchors on a steel frame that help prevent movement during high winds.
New Orleans does have vertical traffic lights but they are placed on vertical steel poles on the sidewalk with multiple anchors as well.
Even though less secure, traffic lights that hang from a cable are still being erected today in Hurricane regions such as the one that was put up in the Summer of 2015 on Hwy 674 in Sun City Center, FL.
You can view an older suspended-by-wire traffic light on Cass Street Bridge in Tampa, Florida as well.
