Authorities in Galveston have executed a major crackdown on illegal drug sales, raiding three Hazy Daze smoke shops as part of an extensive operation. The store owner, 43-year-old Shlomi Wolraich, was arrested and now faces charges of engaging in organized crime and money laundering. He is currently being held without bond. According to Click2Houston,, the busts followed a six-month investigation, during which officials seized $1.6 million from a bank account connected to the sale of illegal substances.
Investigators compiled substantial evidence through surveillance footage, interviews, and undercover operations. During the raids, law enforcement discovered products containing tryptamine—a compound used in the production of psilocybin—along with other synthetic and organic psychedelic drugs. “The problem with these drugs is that they’re marketed in such a way as to be attractive to minors and juveniles and young people, and they are highly addictive,” said Galveston County District Attorney Jack Roady in an interview with Click2Houston. The smoke shops, located along the Seawall and the Strand, are now under heightened scrutiny for their role in distributing illicit substances.
In addition to Wolraich, four others were arrested on various charges, including illegal possession of a weapon, controlled substance offenses, and participation in organized criminal activity. The suspects—Brice Knight, Alejandro Ramirez, Brandon Bell, and Cassius Stinson—face varying bond amounts, ranging from $1,500 to $100,000. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spearheaded the operation with assistance from the League City and Dickinson Police Departments, as reported by KHOU.
Prioritizing community safety, authorities aimed to dismantle sources supplying dangerous substances, particularly those targeting young individuals. As the case moves forward, additional charges are anticipated, with law enforcement pledging to release further details as permitted.
