The Ferguson Police Department allowed artists Linton Lovelock and Phil Berwick to paint a mural on boarded-up windows on the police department building in June of 2020. The mural reads “One Nation” and “We Hear You” at the bottom of the portrait.
The boards were on the windows for protection against protesters for George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, who was murdered by Minneapolis Police. A convenience store employee call 911 after Floyd purchased cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill.
One of the police officers kneeled on George Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds which killed him. During the 8 minutes and 46 seconds, Floyd was pleading, “I can’t breathe” multiple times. The other officers watched and did nothing while Floyd was suffocating due to being pinned down with a knee directly on his carotid artery which cut off blood supply killing him slowly, painfully.
Call Ferguson Police Department at (314) 522-3100 to ask them permission to paint your mural or gaffiti art on some of the unpainted boards that are still there.
