YBOR CITY TAMPA, FL – The El Pasaje (also called the Cherokee Club) was built in 1896 in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida.
The two-story brick building was originally built for Vicente Martinez Ybor (founder of Ybor and Cigar magnet) to house some of his companies.
From its inception, the El Pasaje building has housed many businesses over the years that includes a hotel, restaurants, bars, speakeasies, a military recruiting station and an alternative newspaper to name a few.
The red brick building is located at the corner of East 9th Avenue and 14th Street across the street from Vincent Ybor’s original cigar factory, what is now known as Ybor Square and the hub of Ybor City.
The El Pasaje was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 15, 1972.
