Paducah Riverport Authority – ready for growth

PADUCAH, KY – The Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority has a Linden Comansa 30LC1450 Flat-Top Crane that offers a lifting capacity of 53 U.S. tons away from the tower. This newer crane doubles the Riverports previous lifting capacity along with increasing its reach by forty percent.

The new crane can pick up anything from shipping containers to break bulk freight. This not only improves the ports load capacity but makes way for more growth in Paducah, KY.

Andrew Darnell’s Helicopter is a hit at Paducah Aero Modelers Charity Fly

PADUCAH, KY – Andrew Darnel took flight with his super-fast stunt helicopter during the Paducah Aero Modelers Annual Charity Fly-In and boy was it a crowed pleaser.

It was doing stunts that were impossible. As my friend, Bob said, “It defies all the law of physics.” It went backwards while spinning. It flew upside down so close to the ground it may have cut a few blades of grass. Impressive.

Andrew asked me after his flight if I had kept up with it and I had to say, “No” with a laugh.

It was free to watch. They had a food stand and all kinds of other RC model planes that took flight as well.

The last time I went to an RC Show was back in the 60s when my father took us kids. This reminded me of that so it was very special to me.

The event took place at the McCracken County Model Air Park located on County Park Road in Paducah, KY.

Flags Memorial Day in LowerTown Paducah

PADUCAH, KY – This is brief look at some of the American flags flying on Memorial Day in the LowerTown neighborhood in Paducah, KY.

Boy Dwyer and his wife Terrie, true patriots, volunteered to start the program three years ago and they fly these flags on seven different occasions during the year.

They are very much appreciated as well. While I was taking pictures, I was talking to a new resident that was really happy with the flags.

For Memorial Day the flags are placed on lawns and along sidewalks to pay respect for those who have served in the military and to never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

LowerTown is one of Paducah’s historic neighborhoods that dates back to 1836 when it was annexed.  It was coined LowerTown because it was downstream from Paducah’s commercial area at the time.

Global War on Terrorism Memorial Ceremony, Paducah

Video above shows the unveiling and some touching clips after the ceremony.

PADUCAH, KY – Torian says, “Two Paducah natives, Sgt. Christopher Heflin and MSGT. Aaron Torian, gave the ultimate sacrifice in these wars. No words can describe how much Paducah needs to memorialize those who served along with those who gave everything.” (source

McCracken County Judge Leeper, during the unveiling ceremony on May 28, said to the crowed, “It takes one person to have a vision.” He then looks over to Nathan Torian and said, “Nathan, that was you.”

He continues looking over at Nathan and said, “I have a little phrase I like to use….refuse to do nothing, and I think you epitomized that today.”

Nathan Torian, brother of Aaron Torian who was killed while on duty in Afghanistan in 2014, was at the helm of this project and his unwavering commitment was legendary.

Nathan said to the crowed, “If it wasn’t for you all, it wouldn’t have gotten done. Now I hear everyone thanking me, but all I did was put everyone’s money and efforts into one place.”

Engraved on the monument is MSGT. Aaron Carl Torian and Marine Sgt. Christopher Todd Heflin. They both lived in Paducah and were high school friends as well.

Members of the Operation Enduring Freedom Fund organized the unveiling ceremony.

PADUCAH, KY – At around 2:30 PM yesterday the Paducah Police Department responded to flash flooding at Joe Clifton Road and Laclede Avenue making it safer for first responders in an ambulance to get through the flooded intersection. Couldn’t figure what was going on at first until I got home and watch the video. Nice teamwork.
