Sissy’s Sweet Shoppe, Metropolis, IL

METROPOLIS, IL – I went on a cookie run to Sissy’s Sweet Shoppe yesterday evening on Historic Market Street in downtown Metropolis, IL.

I purchased some Sugar and Raisin Cookies that were baked inhouse. They were still soft and mouthwatering delicious.

Sissy’s is the new bakery and coffee shop that resides in an upscale 2-story building that’s been completely renovated by the owners.

The inside of Sissy’s was built with either reclaimed or original materials. The exposed brick and original wooden floors gives this new sweetery a rustic theme with a modern twist.

In short, the place, people and cookies were awesome making last nights cookie run a great success.

Open 7 days a week! 10-8 M-Th, 10-9 Fri-Sat, 12-8 Sunday

Apartment Hotel in Superman Square Metropolis, IL (coming soon)

METROPOLIS, IL – A new Apartment Hotel  is coming to Superman Square featuring short-term stay options located on the 2nd floor of the Jones Building above the new Milton’s Hot Dog eatery in beautiful downtown Metropolis, IL.

The new Jones apartment hotel will be listed on booking sites such as Airbnb and VRBO. These are companies that feature short-term lodging options where people rent apartments and vacation homes from a few days to weeks at a time.

Renovations of the 2nd floor are slated to begin this winter. Joshua Reagor, owner of the Jones Building, stated that:

”The eight offices on the second floor will be converted into 4 apartments. But they are not going to be permanent apartments like you rent month-to-month. We are going to put them out on Airbnb and VRBO. So when visitors come for the Superman Celebrations and Quilt Shows, we’ll rent them more like a hotel room. And that will stimulate some of the downtown evening traffic downtown.”

ABOUT THE JONES BUILDING

The construction of the building began in 1905 and finished in 1908. It’s all brick and oak timber.

It’s called the Jones building due to the name being stenciled above the front door. And the name has been on the building since anyone can remember. However, no records can be found of any Jones ever owning or residing in the building.

“When I bought the building, this is where I wanted my real estate offices,” said Joshua. He comically added with a smile, “And I don’t believe in renting,” as we all laughed in agreement.

Joshua’s Real Estate Company takes up three units on the first floor. Residing in the other units are Beard & Pugh CPAs and the recently opened Milton’s Hot Dog eatery that serve the best dogs ever!

RESTAURANT UPDATE FOR METROPOLIS 2017

Milton’s Hot Dogs was the second eatery to open on Market Street this year with the other one being 718 Brew Cafe that opened in March.

Two more eateries slated to open in Metropolis are the Cordavino’s Italian Restaurant on Ferry Street and the donut shop on E. 5th Street.

Milton’s, Metropolis, IL

METROPOLIS, IL – Miltons Hot Dogs is a sidewalk-served, carryout-only eatery located on Market Street across from the Courthouse and the giant Superman statue in beautiful downtown Metropolis, IL.

Gourmet Hot Dogs Now Served in Superman Square

I went there today and ordered two chili dogs measuring 6×3 inches that happened to be some of the best chili dogs I have ever had. The high quality chili, cheese and onions in concert with Nathan’s hot dogs was a recipe for perfection. The end result was a gourmet hot dog like no other. The staff was very kind and had our dogs neatly packaged and ready to go in no time.

The Name MILTON

The hot dog eatery was named after Milton,  an Attorney that had an office in this building for years. He retired two years ago at 91. He’s now 93 still living in town. His dad worked as an attorney in this same building as well.

The construction of the building began in 1905 and was finished in 1908. It’s all brick and oak timber. The building is like a classic car, it’s gotten better with age.

THE HOT DOG IDEA

The 3-story building was originally built for office space with each floor having a whopping 3200 square feet. Joshua Reagor, real estate agent and owner of the building, explained that:

”It’s just hard to rent office space. So I told my wife: ya know what…we are going to make this work. I said you figure out a business that you want and she came up with this. She designed all this. And of course because I am in real estate I know a lot of sign people. We mainly did it for our girls to work and maybe make a couple part time jobs for someone else.”

BEST HOT DOGS EVER!

These are the best hot dogs around that are loaded with the best toppings ever.  Please visit this hot dog eatery as much as possible to help support family owned businesses.

EATERY UPDATE FOR METROPOLIS

This is the second locally owned eatery to open on Market Street this year, the other being 718 BrewCafe that opened in March. 718 Cafe is a highly endorsed casual eatery that offers alcohol to boot.

Massac Theatre Metropolis, IL (coming soon)

METROPOLIS, IL – The beautiful Massac Theatre, safely slumbers for now, protected by a community driven non-profit group called Save the Massac Theatre that materialized when it was just a few steps away from demolition now years ago.

On their Facebook page, the group wrote they are:

dedicated to saving the Massac Theatre. Please help us restore this fine old lady of Metropolis

The group provides a secure way for the community to donate through PayPal on their Facebook page at: facebook.com/SaveTheMassacTheatre.

In 2001 the population in Metropolis was counted at 6,465 by the U.S. Census Bureau.  If 6,465 people donated $20.00, this would equate to $129,300. This amount would complete the goal of $15,000 needed for the current Masonry repairs with a lot left over.
