The Town of Ramapo Police Department announced in a press release that on March 20, around 12:27 PM, officers responded to Hillcrest after the Spring Valley Police Department requested a welfare check on a driver.
Upon arrival, officers observed the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction before it swerved off the road, hit a curb, and eventually crashed into a home.
The driver, a 61-year-old man from Monroe, showed clear signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech, impaired motor skills, and the smell of alcohol. Several open containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle, according to the report.
Further investigation revealed the driver had a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years. He was arrested and charged with felony DWI, according to the Town of Ramapo Police.
Fortunately, no residents were injured in the crash.
