Riding classic streetcars in Tampa, FL

TAMPA, FL – TECO Streetcars has a route map that travels 2.7 miles through Ybor City, the Channel District and parts of Downtown Tampa. Riding streetcars is a great way to get acquainted with the area or to get to your favorite place along the route worry free.

The first electric streetcars in Tampa started rolling in 1892 and were a necessity for daily life. The tracks were more of abundant and the workers at the cigar factories west of Tampa depended on them among many others.

The streetcars reached a peak in popularity in the 1920’s with almost 24 million passengers in 1926.  But following World War II in 1946, the streetcars came to a permanent halt.

The streetcar system was restored and started rolling once again on October 19, 2002 with 11 stations. The track begins or ends (depending on how you look at it at) at Centennial Park Station Station #1 near 8th Avenue and 20th Street in Ybor City,  just a block away from the Historic 7th Avenue.

The route includes Channelside Drive, that runs right through the Channel District with a front row view of the Port of Tampa. Along the port you may see beautiful cruise ships like the MS Brilliance Cruise Ship docked awaiting its next voyage.

You will pass The Florida Aquarium and a two-story strip-mall with opportunities to dine, visit cafes, enjoy a movie or do some shopping before heading towards Downtown Tampa to the end at Whiting Station #11 on Whiting Street.

Adults can ride the street cars in Tampa all day long for only $5.00 or $2.50 for one way. Youth 15 – 17 ride all day for $2.50 and $1.25 for one way.
